Founded in 2008 in Mthatha, Women With Vision (WWV) is a non-profit organization dedicated
to breaking cycles of poverty and creating opportunities for children and families.
Our story began with nine women and a dream: to make a difference in their communities. Today, our network has grown to 70 volunteers, united by compassion, tenacity, and a commitment to building a brighter future for South Africa’s most vulnerable.
‘In 2007, our family faced significant challenges during a difficult time in our lives. Through faith and perseverance, we were able to overcome those challenges, and this journey taught us the importance of gratitude and giving back.
While I was inspired to start an NPO, I must give credit to my nephew, Zaheer Surka, who truly believed in me and planted the seed for this organization.
At first, I was hesitant because I had no knowledge about running an NPO. I didn’t feel ready or capable. But when my son was given a second chance, something changed within me. I realized that I needed to find a way to thank the Almighty for His blessings.
Starting Women With Vision became my way of expressing that gratitude and making a difference in the lives of others in Mthatha, a small town in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where I live. It was my nephew’s belief in me that gave me the courage to take the first step, and Women With Vision was born.’ – Rashida Mukadam
Starting as nine women committed to making a difference, WWV has now grown to include 70 women spread across South Africa.
Although our core mission is to improve the lives of children, our hearts and efforts extend to helping anyone in need.
Our journey began with simple yet impactful acts—visiting children’s homes in Mthatha, identifying immediate needs, and finding ways to fulfill them.
This community-driven approach laid the foundation for the kind of lasting change we wanted to create.
The first large project, the ‘Happy Home Project’ came in 2014.
Happy Home is a shelter for disabled children, and the WWV team, together with our resilient and strong community ties, built two additional rooms, creating space for 16 more children.
We didn't do it alone—local businesses were brought on board to help with supplies, exemplifying WWV’s commitment to community collaboration.
WWV is focused on nurturing partnerships and fostering relationships with long-term supporters to ensure sustainability in all our efforts.
